Ann's Comments: (1991):
“At first, the theme “Good Old Earth” didn’t suggest anything with yellow.

Then I came across a newspaper article, with a picture of Mars in wonderful yellow, orange & red, sporting the headline “Mars seen as ultimate fixer-upper.”

It seems a team of scientists have proposed a method for terraforming Mars to make it habitable for humans.
So it’s possible that someday people will feel at home on Mars, just as we do on Earth!”

Ann’s later comments:
“This was for the New Pieces Fabric and Chamber Music’s 1991 challenge, “Good Old Earth”. Two yellow fabrics and the multicolored print (in the moons) were the required fabrics.

About the time I was deciding what kind of quilt to make, the (San Jose) Mercury News ran an article describing a method for terraforming Mars. It seemed that Mars could be the next “Good Old Earth,” and that would go along with the theme of the challenge.

The quilt won the 2nd place viewer’s choice award. (Which was a gift certificate for more fabric!)”
