Broken and Made Whole
started 1994, finished 1996 / 24w x 40h

Materials and technique: Cotton, rayon, blends, silk, wool, linen, felt. Cotton flannel filling. Machine piecing and quilting, appliqué, embroidery.

Ann's Comments: "The pink 'ribbon' winding through the quilt is for breast cancer awareness: I would rather have been less aware.

The yellow sections are no longer part of the large, nice, light area, but broken up and separated, with darkness between (but, I realize, not as dark as in my first breast cancer quilt).

Without the cancer, I would not have had the freedom to take my scissors to an already finished, quilted section and ruthlessly cut it into pieces. Without the cancer I would have made a different quilt.

The quilt was made in sections that were completely finished, then cut into smaller pieces and sewn onto a felt backing."
